Chapter 880: Desperate, she parted her lips to shout, "Help..." But the cry drowned as water poured in, silencing her.

In a panic, Elissa thrashed her head, her soaked garments growing leaden, pulling her deeper toward the pond's murky floor.

Then, with a sharp splash, someone plunged into the icy depths after her! As darkness crept into her senses, an arm hooked around her waist, tugging her upward.

With a forceful burst, they broke the surface. The caregiver gaped, joined by security guards who'd sprinted over, poised to leap in.

They all stopped short, stunned.

Ernest had plunged into the water himself.

Soaked through, he hauled Elissa to the bank, where the guards scrambled to pull them ashore.

Elissa coughed, head tilting as she spat out murky water.

The caregiver rushed to her side. “Miss Holland, you need a hot bath—now!" "Okay," Elissa rasped, nodding. She tried to stand, but her legs buckled, still trembling from the shock.

"I'll carry her," a guard offered, stepping forward.

"Wait-no, I've got her!" Ernest cut in, his brow furrowing as he nudged the guard aside.

The guard hesitated, but then retreated, the caregiver wisely stepping back too.

Ernest moved in, knelt, and lifted Elissa into his arms.

Her eyes widened, a rush of unfamiliar strength surrounding her.

Though she couldn't see, she knew this was her rescuer.

Awkward in his hold, she fumbled with her hands, and then said earnestly, “Thank you for pullingout." Ernest glanced down, a faint smile tugging at his lips. "You're welcome." His voice struck her as warm and pleasing.

Worried she'd catch a chill, Ernest strode quickly toward the house.

The caregiver, already ahead, had a bath ready and pointed the way.

"In there!" "Got it." Ernest carried Elissa in, set her down gently, and stepped out. After her bath, Ernest was already gone.

A doctor had swung by to examine her in the meantime.

Now, the caregiver brought warm water, and Elissa sipped it gratefully.

"Miss Holland," the caregiver ventured, puzzled, "didn't I asbybu to "didn't stay put? What happened out there? Why did you walk over to the pond?" Elissa frowned, uncertain. "I'm sorry for the scare. I don't know-I thought I heard a baby crying." The caregiver was alarmed and pressed further, "Why did you go just because you heard a baby crying?"

Elissa's confusion deepened. "I'm not sure,” she admitted. She then m murmured to herself, "Yeah, why did I?" "Don't dwell on it," the caregiver cut in. "Drink up-warm yourself. That lake was ice-cold."
