Chapter 607 Noelle's face felt warm as she stared at the message on her screen.
Cedric sent only one line: "I don't agree to the breakup and will wait for you- however long it takes." She immediately closed the chat and turned her face toward the car window, trying to steady the emotions bubbling up again. She had finally started to calm down, but now her heart was in chaos all over again.
For a long time, Noelle thought Cedric had only toyed with her feelings and kept his real identity hidden because he did not care. But just earlier, he had stood up in front of everyone and shut down the engagement rumors with Laura.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtShe had watched as Laura completely broke down in tears right in front of everyone. It was not something Cedric had to do, but he did.
Grace broke the silence from the back seat. "Noelle, what's going on with you and your boyfriend-sorry, ex- boyfriend?" Noelle mumbled, "It's... kind of complicated right now." Grace said with a grin, "Well, from the way he was looking at you just now, I don't think he's over it. He looked like a big abandoned puppy, just waiting for you to turn around and pet him." If it were her, Grace thought she would be unable to stay mad for so long. After all, having such a handsboyfriend would melt away any anger she felt with just a glance at his face.
Noelle felt her face heat up even more. "Don't start. Honestly, I haven't even figured out what I want yet." Cedric and Emma had both clarified that the engagement rumor with the Merlocks was just that—a rumor. Back then, Laura had used that lie to mess with her, and it had worked.
Still, Noelle could not get past the fact that Cedric had kept his identity hidden. His lack of trust in her really hurt. Grace looped her arm through Noelle's. "Then ignore him for a while. Let him sweat. Let him learn what it feels like to be the one chasing for once." "That's true. I was always the one running after him," Noelle muttered. This time, she wanted to see if he would cto her instead.
Grace added, "Besides, there are tons of good guys in the world. Shave already asked around about whether you're single. Say the word, and I'll spread the news-watch how fast they line up." Noelle let out a soft laugh. "You make a good point." She still was not sure where things would go with Cedric. Nonetheless, she had been given a second chance at life, and she was not about to let one man distract her from everything she still had to do.
From the front seat, Raymond heard the conversation and glanced at the rearview mirror. There was something thoughtful and a little calculating-in his eyes.
Back at the restaurant, Cedric finally looked away once Noelle's car had left. Behind him, Laura said stiffly, "I just diold you all of that, and you even hear a word of it?" He looked down at his phone again, only to find no reply from Noelle. His mood soured instantly.
Turning to Laura, his tone was sharp. "I've already shown you more respect than you deserve. If I hadn't, your little stunt of answering my phone would've already caused a real problem for the Merlocks." "But I've known you way longer than she has! Why her? What does Noelle have that I don't?" Laura completely broke down. Her pride shattered along with her logic.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmCedric stared at her coldly. "Because Noelle's the woman I love. And no one compares to the person I love." That was it that was the reason. He turned without saying another word and climbed into his car.
Behind him, Laura collapsed to the ground in tears. She truly did not understand how she had lost to someone like Noelle.
She was Yasnia's number one socialite. She had the looks, the status, the connections-how could she not be enough? Later, Noelle returned to her dorm. As she collapsed onto her bed, she stared at Cedric's message, the one she still had not replied to.
He had been texting her every day, but she had not answered a single time. She could not help but think it was exhausting.
The next morning, Noelle walked into the base and saw Howie HowieC approaching. Her expression was unreadable as she met him halfway. "What do you want?"
Howie frowned slightly. "Don't you think you were a little too harsh with the Merlocks last night? They've been our sponsors for years, you know." Noelle retorted, "And you didn't see them trying to put their hands all over people?" Howie paused. "Well, yeah, but it's always been like that. Nothing's ever really happened—there were plenty of people watching."
Noelle's voice turned cold. "I don't W before care what happened before. I'm the captain now. And I won't let my team get dragged into shady dinners just to keep a sponsor happy!"
