Chapter 406 Friends When Xavier saw that Sierra was about to leave, he thought about asking her when she would return the money and houses she had scammed from their father.

However, when he looked up, he met her eyes that seemed to have seen right through him, causing him to lower his head in shame.

By the the looked up again, Sierra was already gone.

At the Gray Corporation, Adrian stared at the new information he had just found. He took stto compose himself before he returned to his usual calm and collected self and walked into Theo's office.

"Mr. Gray, it seems like Mrs. Gray's father had just been hospitalized. He probably could not handle the shock of everything." Adrian did not explain what shock William had received, but Theo could easily guess what had happened as amusement flashed across his eyes.

That evening, they were having dinner in silence after returning home. Suddenly, Theo brought it up and asked, "I heard that Mr. Shaw has been admitted to the hospital. Is he alright?" Sierra ate a piece of short rib and chewed slowly before she said, "He's fine. He just had a stroke, but apparently there might be slingering effects." Theo's hand paused midair before he glanced at her in amusement. How could she still say that he was fine after getting a stroke? Once Sierra was full, she put her spoon down and lowered her head with her cup still in hand. Suddenly, she said, "You were right. One's power and fate should never be placed in someone else's hands." Raising an eyebrow, Theo was slightly surprised to hear her say that. At the stime, he was also happy that she had agreed with him.

"What did Xavier say?" he asked.

She took a sip of her water and recounted what had happened that afternoon.

In the end, she smiled self-mockingly, saying, "No wonder William always claimed that I wasn't his daughter. It turns out, I really am nothing like him." Hearing her words, Theo felt his heart ache for her, and he got up to give her a comforting hug. "You're not as fake as him. In fact, you're more like your mom, beautiful and kind." Leaning against his chest, Sierra chuckled and wrapped her arms around his waist. "Thank you for comforting me." Half a month had passed since the incident in the horse stables, and Melody's legs had finally healed.

Instead of going shopping with her friends or thanking Douglas, the first thing she did was to dress up prettily and head to Gray Corporation.

Upon entering the office doors, she was immediately stopped by the receptionist. "Miss, please wait for a moment. Do you have an appointment?" Although feeling displeased, she maintained her smile and said politely, "I'm here to speak with Mr. Gray." The receptionist looked at her and smiled. "Do you have an appointment?" Annoyed by how insistent the receptionist was, Melody frowned, asking, "I'm from the Jones family and I'm also an old classmate and good friend of his. Do I still need an appointment? I've never had to go through all this when I chere last time." The receptionist smiled apologetically, still refusing to move aside. "Could you please givea moment to get confirmation from Mr. Cole?" Seeing how insistent she was, Melody collected her smile and nodded in exasperation. "Do what you need. I'll call Theo too." The receptionist looked at her hesitantly, but when she remembered that she had to follow the company's policy, she picked up her phone and called Adrian.

"Hello, Mr. Cole? There's a Ms. Jones here at the front desk, claiming to be Mr. Gray's friend. However, she doesn't have an appointment. Should I let her up?"

Adrian paused in the middle of sorting through his documents. He then frowned as he tried to recall Theo's female friends and partners with the last nof Jones. "Mrs. Gray is the only woman in Mr. Gray's life. He does not have any other female friends."

The receptionist glanced at Melody, who was on the phone, and and lowered her voice. "She has Mr. Gray's number. Do you want to double-check with him?"

She was just a regular employee. If she ended up offending Theo's friend, there was a change she might end up losing her job. So, it was best that she played it safe and obtained confirmation on the matter. Adrian understood that she was in a difficult spot, so he put his papers down and knocked on Theo's office door. "Cin." "Mr. Gray, there's a Ms. Jones at the front desk claiming to be a friend of yours." Theo frowned as he looked at Adrian coldly. "Are you actually askingabout this?" Adrian explained, "She has your number, so the front desk would like a confirmation on the matter." Looking at his phone, Theo noticed that he had several missed calls. After giving it sthought, he said, "Let her up."
